The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Abbas Byakagaba, has congratulated all the applicants who successfully qualified to join the police force. These individuals will now begin an extensive training process to transform them from civilians into professional and dedicated officers. The training will commence on July 13, 2024, at the police academy in Kabalye, Masindi.
A total of 3,441 Probationer Police Constables (PPCs) were selected, comprising 2,349 male applicants and 1,092 female applicants. The IGP emphasized that joining the police force is a career that demands a high level of personal integrity and responsibility.
To aid in their transformation, a team of skilled instructors will guide the recruits at the academy. Situated on a two-square-mile site, the academy boasts excellent learning facilities, including scenario-based training programs, paramilitary and self-defense training grounds, weapon ranges, lecture halls, dormitories, an IT laboratory, a library, dining facilities, and sports grounds. The academy takes pride in developing the skills and capabilities of officers who serve the country in various leadership positions.
Successful candidates reporting to the training school are required to bring the following items: an original and photocopy of their academic documents and national identity card, four passport photos, a ream of photocopying paper, four file covers, two Bic pens, two pairs of plain light blue bed sheets, a pair of gumboots, a pair of canvas shoes, a tracksuit, two T-shirts for physical exercise, a slasher, mosquito nets, a 10-liter plastic jerrycan, a plastic basin or bucket, and personal effects.
The 12-month training course at the academy will prepare the recruits to be confirmed at the rank of Probation Police Constable (PPC). The training environment is designed to be stimulating and challenging, requiring dedication, commitment, and a willingness to train. The course will include classroom-based theory lessons, practical exercises, and physical training.
The IGP highlighted that the training period will be intense and demanding, requiring strong bonds and teamwork among the recruits. Support from family and friends will be essential, and while at the academy, the trainees will receive ample support from their lecturers, trainers, and fellow trainees. The academy will accommodate all trainees and provide meals, as well as cultural and religious considerations.
The IGP once again congratulated all the trainees and expressed anticipation for their graduation day, where they will celebrate their achievements with their families.
