The Court of Appeal has commenced hearing 25 criminal appeals at Kabale High Court.

Among the cases are, 15 for murder, 7 for aggravated defilement, 2 for rape, 1 for robbery, and 1 for manslaughter. This is the second time the court is sitting in the Kigezi region.

The sessions will be presided over by Justice Irene Mulyagonja, Christopher Gashirabake, and Eva Luswata.

Speaking at the opening of the sessions on Monday, Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera emphasized that the process of arbitration and reconciliation should be given priority during the sessions with only the appointment of a mediator.

According to the Court’s Registrar Lillian Bucyana, the session is set to run in a phased manner, for three days.
