On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, President Samia Suluhu Hassan highlighted the achievements of 11 Tanzanian companies benefiting from trade within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). These companies have begun exporting goods such as coffee, hemp, spices, peanuts, and tobacco to various African countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Algeria, and Morocco.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan addressed the audience during the opening ceremony of the 48th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (Sabasaba), emphasizing the ongoing efforts to encourage more businesses to leverage these opportunities.
“The government will continue to address challenges faced by traders, and the Ministry is open to supporting businesses,” said President Samia.
She urged participants of the Sabasaba exhibition to use this platform to learn and prepare to serve both local and international markets effectively.
Furthermore, President Samia encouraged business owners to register with the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) to take full advantage of selling their products within the AfCFTA market.
In addition to trade within AfCFTA, President Samia highlighted the longstanding trade relationship between Tanzania and Mozambique, which has historically thrived through coastal trading networks between major commercial cities from Mogadishu through Kilwa to Sofala in Mozambique.
“The founders, including the Presidents of both countries, laid the groundwork for strengthening cooperation, and the recent developments have reinforced this commitment,” President Samia stated.
Acknowledging the efforts of the exhibition organizers, particularly Dr. Ashantu Kijaji, who worked diligently to prepare this year’s event under the Ministry of Industries and Trade, President Samia expressed her gratitude.
While commending the resilience of exhibits such as the Mama Mkapa Pavilion, President Samia recalled her early career involvement with the booth when she was a junior officer, highlighting its enduring presence.
“We will continue to enhance these exhibitions year after year to ensure that participants find them engaging and worthwhile,” President Samia concluded.
