Joseph Akorio, Amudat –  Shock and shame gripped the people of Amudat on Wednesday after intercepting the vehicle of the Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Godfrey Akol, loaded with relief food meant to be distributed to the hungry Pokot families of Amudat.

The incident has paralyzed the entire security apparatus in the district, with many describing the actions of the Deputy RDC as shameful and demanding the transfer of Mr. Akol.

According to the locals, this is not the first time Mr. Akol has taken relief food meant for the people of Amudat to his home in Katakwi.

“This man has a wired character. During recruitment exercises for either the police or UPDF, he brings all his relatives from Katakwi to be recruited in Amudat. As if that’s not enough, he even steals food meant for the hungry Pokots,” said one of the locals.

Most families in Amudat, in the Karamoja sub-region, go a day without food due to crop failures caused by drought. Mr. Akol was forced to offload the food back to the stores by the angry, concerned community.

Mr. Akol was not available for comment since the incident had humiliated him.

More details to follow.
