The China Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation (CCECC) has allegedly colluded with the director of St. Jude Secondary School in Katende to seize land belonging to the family of RDC Obongi Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka in Kyambizi, Bulansuku, Kiringete sub-county, Mpigi district. CCECC is currently constructing the Busega-Mpigi expressway.
Mr. Bwenvu, who claims to be the title holder of the kibanja purchased by the Hashaka family in 2011, is at the center of the dispute.
The Hashaka family has officially written to the Chinese company to complain about the land grabbing. Bwenvu, in cahoots with the Chinese company, has allegedly illegally dumped soil on their land, destroying crops and causing flooding.
During a meeting organized by CCECC at the site, company officials apologized to the Hashaka family, claiming they were misled by Bwenvu who received money for falsely claiming exclusive ownership of the land.
The Chinese company pledged to compensate the family but has reportedly reneged on the promise, again in collusion with Mr. Bwenvu.
The Hashaka family attempted to purchase the title but Bwenvu reportedly rushed to acquire it after learning about the government’s plans to construct a new road on the same land.
