On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, data card registration will commence for all districts in the Lango sub-region. This decision was reached during a joint meeting chaired at the District Health Officer’s (DHO) boardroom by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Lira District.

The meeting was attended by all Sub-county Administrative Officers (SASs) of Lira District, Town Clerks from the City, Lira District’s Area Woman MP, Hon. Linda Agnes Auma, Lira District LCV Chairman, Mr. Okello Orik, ARDC Lira District’s Ssentamu, and ARCC Lira City’s Alele Okello Bonny.

Addressing the meeting on behalf of the RCC Lira City, Bonny Okello Alele, the ARCC Lira City, warned those responsible for distributing data cards to be cautious of masqueraders who may attempt to exploit the process. “This exercise is completely free of charge, but unfortunately, there may be unscrupulous individuals who will try to extort money from our innocent and vulnerable communities who are beneficiaries of this compensation.

However, the security forces in the Lango sub-region will not hesitate to apprehend such dishonest persons. We urge the communities of Lango to report anyone soliciting money during this exercise to the GISOs, DISOs, CISO, and all regional offices of the presidency,” Alele Okello Bonny warned.

Alele requested that the exercise be conducted fairly and efficiently to ensure that our people can benefit promptly. “I appeal for teamwork from the Attorney General’s office, coordinators, CAOs, DISOs, SASs, and Town Clerks to bring smiles to our people this time. This has been overdue. I thank the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for listening to the people of Lango and for his positive guidance and directives throughout this exercise. Lango needs leaders who will consistently advocate and explain the details of how these exercises benefit them,” Alele added.

“Hon. Linda Auma, Hon. Dr. Opio Acuti, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, Hon. GCW Denis Hamson Obua, and other leaders have played crucial roles in explaining this exercise to the people of Lango. I applaud your efforts,” said ARCC Alele.

“The NRM Government under the leadership of President Yoweri Museveni will continue to support all activities and programs that improve the lives of the people of Lango and Uganda, except for the few who have engaged in robbery, exploitation, and extortion of innocent people in broad daylight. This is something we cannot tolerate,” Alele Okello Bonny, the ARCC Lira City, emphasized.
