Bishop Rt. Rev. Assoc. Prof. Sheldon Mwesigwa Calls on Ankole Diocese to Join Save River Rwizi Marathon 2024 Scheduled for July 28th.
Yesterday, the Bishop of Ankole Diocese, Rt. Rev. Assoc. Prof. Sheldon Mwesigwa, called on believers and patriots to work together to ensure the restoration of the natural state of River Rwizi in the southwestern region.
Emphasizing this call, the Bishop noted that River Rwizi is a God-given gift, a natural resource provided to sustain the lives of people and animals in the southwestern region.
“God has never made mistakes, that’s why he gifted us with such an amazing River Rwizi, providing us with water,” said Bishop Sheldon Mwesigwa.
“There is a need to fight corruption because the majority of people polluting River Rwizi are powerful and very difficult to fight,” said Bishop Sheldon.
The Bishop commended the Abahumuza Development Group for their good work in rallying Ugandans to preserve and protect the prestigious River Rwizi. He also praised the initiative behind the annual Save River Rwizi Marathon.
Many initiatives have been undertaken by the Abahumuza Development Group, with the support of development partners like Lato Milk, Nile Breweries, NBS TV, Taasa Obutonde, the Ministry of Water and Environment, Mbarara City Council Authority, and people of goodwill from all over Uganda who have consistently participated in the Save River Rwizi Marathon every year.
The initiatives to restore the River include the construction of underground waste bunkers to control plastic and polythene disposal. Over 50 of these bunkers have been constructed in different areas around Mbarara City. The Abahumuza have also raised awareness through sensitization programs on the dangers associated with the destruction of River Rwizi and the environment.
Bishop Mwesigwa called on all believers and patriots to participate in the Save River Rwizi Marathon 2024, scheduled for July 28th at the Golf Course Grounds in Mbarara City.
