Global Surge in Penile Cancer Cases: Experts Sound Alarm

The number of men suffering from penile cancer is rising globally, according to recent research and analysis by experts.

A study conducted by researchers at Sun Yat-Sen University in China has found that the incidence of penile cancer is expected to increase by 77% over the next 26 years. This study included data from 43 countries across different continents, with Europe being particularly affected.

“Although developing countries still have high mortality rates from penile cancer, the majority of cases are occurring in European countries,” the study reports.

Countries like Germany, the United Kingdom, and Brazil have seen significant increases in penile cancer cases. Symptoms of penile cancer include changes in the color of the penis, discharge from the penis, and changes in sexual desire.

“Other factors contributing to penile cancer include unprotected sex, poor penile hygiene, and being uncircumcised,” explained Dr. Neil Barber, an expert in infectious diseases.

Additionally, researchers noted that this disease primarily affects men aged 60 and above. Despite the rising number of cases, men are advised not to panic as penile cancer is still relatively rare compared to other types of cancer. Worldwide, Uganda has a high incidence of penile cancer, followed closely by Brazil.

Between 2008 and 2012, Uganda reported 220 cases of penile cancer per 100,000 men, while Brazil reported 210 cases per 100,000 men during the same period.
