Charles Peter Mayiga, the premier of Buganda Kingdom, has strongly criticized the use of vulgar language and indecent dressing among Ugandan musicians. Mayiga emphasized the need for artists to present their work in a respectful manner and avoid provocative content.
Speaking at the Kampala Serena Hotel on Friday, July 26, 2024, during musician Iryn Namubiru’s concert, titled “A Timeless Experience,” Mayiga urged artists to conduct themselves with decency both in their music and attire.
Mayiga pointed out that Iryn Namubiru, known for her soothing music, has been in the industry for a significant period. Her perseverance and dedication to her craft have earned her respect and appreciation from fans. According to Mayiga, Namubiru’s long-standing commitment to her music is reflected in her success and popularity.
“Namubiru has spent years honing her talent, and her determination is evident in the positive reception of her music,” Mayiga stated on his X handle.
He also addressed the broader music industry, advising artists to be patient and understand that achieving fame requires time and effort. “Success does not come overnight. It is important to avoid getting caught up in the excitement and to focus on developing your talent,” he added.
Namubiru, who is known for her love songs, has been less active recently but remains a prominent figure in Ugandan music. Her recent performance was attended by several notable figures, including fellow musician Juliana Kanyomozi. Kanyomozi praised Namubiru’s performance on X, expressing her admiration with the message: “My sister Namubiru, you killed it last night! Congratulations!”
