Presidential Advisor Sam Engola Mourns Aleper Simon Peter, Recounts His Legacy

Napak District – Hon. Sam Engola, the Senior Presidential Advisor in charge of the Lango zone, has described the late Hon. Aleper Simon Peter, a member of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), as a dedicated leader and a true patriot.

Mr. Engola, a close friend of the deceased, shared his memories with a reporter on Tuesday. He recalled his time serving alongside Aleper in the NRM CEC. Engola described Aleper as a leader with integrity and dedication.




Engola, who served two terms as NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, recounted Aleper’s loyalty and commitment to the NRM party. He contrasted this with Hon. Pamela Angwech of Lira City, who stated that Engola himself was a good friend to Aleper during his time on the CEC.




Engola, in an interview, further described Aleper as a man of exceptional character who dedicated most of his time to NRM party work. He highlighted Aleper as an example of the few party members who exceptionally devoted themselves to national service for the benefit of ordinary people in Karamoja.




The Senior Presidential Advisor praised Aleper’s efforts in promoting unity, peace, investment in the Karamoja region, and NRM ideology. He revealed that Aleper played a crucial role in attracting more NRM supporters after joining the CEC and will be remembered for years to come as a true and distinct NRM cadre.

Details of Aleper’s Life and Passing

Aleper Simon Peter was laid to rest on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024, in Kangole, Napak district. As Engola noted, the people of Karamoja and party members continue to honor his legacy and contributions to the region.




The 50-year-old Aleper was a vibrant NRM CEC member and a former Member of Parliament for Moroto Municipality. He died tragically in a motor accident on July 30th while driving his personal vehicle (UAP 787Q) on official duty along the Iganga-Tirinyi road.

According to close family members, the late Hon. Simon Peter Aleper was born on December 26th, 1974, in Kangole Town Council, Nawokotelei Cell, Senior Quarters, Napak District, to Meri Peter Lochap and Lomunge Maritha. He is remembered by many as a good leader.
