Farewell Visit Marks End of British High Commissioner’s Term

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, welcomed Her Excellency Kate Airey, the outgoing British High Commissioner to Uganda, to the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) Headquarters in Mbuya for a farewell meeting. This event, held on August 2, 2024, also included Lt Col Ash Wiseman, the newly appointed UK Defence Attaché to Uganda.

During the meeting, General Kainerugaba thanked Ms. Airey for her role in strengthening the relations between Uganda and the United Kingdom. He extended his best wishes for her future endeavors as she concludes her diplomatic service in Uganda.

The meeting followed a previous engagement in April, where Ms. Airey had congratulated General Kainerugaba on his appointment as CDF. At that time, she also delivered a congratulatory letter from Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, the British Chief of Defence Staff.

General Kainerugaba, a distinguished graduate of the UK’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, reiterated his commitment to deepening the collaboration between the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and the British Armed Forces.

The presence of Lt Col Ash Wiseman at the meeting underscored the continued partnership between Uganda and the UK in defense matters.
