Okidi Patrick, Obongi – Over 50 women in Obongi Town Council have stormed the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) to protest the mismanagement of their Emyooga Sacco funds by men who are leading the women’s group.

The women, led by Chandiru Anifa, Tatayi Raima, and Fikira Sahiya, claim that over 50 million shillings allocated to the group under the government’s women entrepreneurship program has been embezzled. They presented a memorandum to the RDC, alleging that the Sacco account has been emptied.

The protesters accused the male leaders of closing the Sacco office and refusing to hold meetings. They demanded that an extra Annual General Meeting (AGM) be convened to remove the men from leadership and compel them to account for the missing funds.

The women further stated that the Sacco has been denied additional funding due to the failure of the current leadership to submit accountability reports to the Microfinance Support Center Ltd.

They are appealing to RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka and Assistant RDC Umuhoza Habiba Furaha to intervene and address the situation.
