Police in Rubanda District are investigating the death of a 20-year-old man identified as Joseph Tibandekea, a resident of Kasalaga Cell, Zigoti Sub-county, Mityana District.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate told journalists that the incident occurred yesterday in Hamuhambo Town Council, Rubanda District. The deceased was allegedly assaulted by unidentified locals following a misunderstanding.
Maate said two suspects, Kakande Ibra (also a resident of Kasalaga Cell, Zigoti Sub-county, Mityana District) and Amanyire Branson (a resident of Rubanga Cell, Nyabikungu Parish, Kinoni Sub-county, Mbarara District), have been arrested to aid in the investigation.
It is alleged that the deceased, the two suspects, and other workers left a worksite in Bushura Cell and went to Hamuhambo Town Council for leisure around midnight. A dispute arose between the group and unidentified locals, leading to a fight. The three managed to flee back to the worksite, but Tibandekea was found unconscious.
Police were notified and took the victim to Rugarama Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A murder case was registered at Bunyonyi Police Post and subsequently at Rubanda Central Police Station under reference number CRB 331/2024.
