Otuke East County Member of Parliament Hon. Acon Julius Bua has stated that the upcoming Gulu Regional Parliamentary session will be highly beneficial for the people of Northern Uganda. He emphasized that major issues affecting the region, such as poor roads, inadequate health facilities, and shortcomings in the education sector—including a lack of classrooms and underfunding—will be his focus during the session in Gulu.
Hon. Acon also highlighted the importance of developing a mindset around coffee growing and large banana plantations to enhance socio-economic transformation. He cited the example of Western Uganda, where individuals are earning about 20 million shillings per hectare from coffee cultivation and are integrating into the money economy.
He mentioned that MPs from various parts of the country will converge in Gulu, with transportation arranged by Parliament to prevent congestion in the city.
Hon. Acon Bua pointed out that, while there are numerous important issues to be discussed, infrastructure, education, and health facilities are crucial for the development of Northern Uganda, especially in the Lango sub-region.
Last week, Hon. Acon was part of an education and sports committee on a fact-finding mission concerning the education sector in Lango sub-region.
In recent efforts to boost agricultural productivity, the Otuke East MP has donated a total of 2,500,000 hand hoes to his constituents. According to him, this initiative aims to reduce famine and increase household income, thereby fighting poverty through improved agricultural inputs and seed distribution.
MP Bua Acon assured the people of Otuke District that he will continue to lobby for additional support from both within and outside Uganda to enhance living standards. He also encouraged the community to plant crops resistant to changing climatic conditions, especially during this rainy season.
Hon. Acon commended the NRM government for maintaining peace and stability in the area, particularly for defeating the LRA rebels during the insurgency in Northern Uganda, including Lango sub-region. He noted that “peace follows progress.”
Additionally, he urged the people of Lango and Otuke East constituency to support NRM party candidates in the 2026 elections to foster further development, asserting that the NRM administration under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been successful in reducing poverty and advancing development throughout Uganda.
