(Kaabong) – Joint Security Forces have arrested a Karimojong warrior suspected of murdering Alfred Lokong Namboso, the head teacher of Narube Primary School in Kaabong district. The suspect, identified as Loumwa Lomol, was apprehended on Friday at Kamachariko Trading Centre, following an intensive manhunt.

Loumwa Lomol, a resident of Moruangikamar village in Kathile sub-county, was reportedly involved in the fatal shooting of Namboso on Tuesday. The operation that led to his arrest was carried out by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and other security agencies. Following his capture, a search was conducted at Lomol’s home, resulting in the discovery of an AK-47 rifle, serial number 27326, along with 28 rounds of ammunition.

Major Isacc Oware, spokesperson for the UPDF 3rd Division, provided details on the arrest. According to Oware, Lomol confessed during interrogation that he, along with other suspects still at large, including a UPDF deserter named Lioki Lokiding, carried out the murder of Namboso. The motive behind the killing was to prevent Namboso from testifying against Lokiding’s brother, who is currently imprisoned for stealing food from the school.

Lomol revealed that on August 29, 2024, at around 17:00hrs, the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) received intelligence that he was seen drinking at Kamachariko center. Acting on this information, the security forces swiftly moved to apprehend him. During the interrogation, Lomol disclosed the location of the weapon used in the murder. The subsequent search of his home led to the recovery of the AK-47 rifle, which contained 28 rounds of ammunition.

Further questioning revealed that Lomol and Lokiding orchestrated the shooting to silence the headteacher and his wife, ensuring that Namboso could not testify against Lokiding’s brother. The couple was killed using two bullets fired from Lomol’s gun.

This arrest marks a major step in the ongoing investigation, as security forces say they continue to pursue the remaining suspects. The police force has said the recovery of the firearm, along with the confession, provides crucial evidence that is expected to aid in the prosecution of those involved in this brutal crime.
