Congolese soukous superstar Awilo Longomba paid a visit to General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe on Monday afternoon. The meeting occurred as Longomba prepares for his upcoming concert in Uganda.

Accompanying the general were other notable Ugandan figures, including the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, Richard Todwong. The gathering underscored the significant cultural exchange between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, facilitated through Longomba’s music.

Awilo Longomba, whose full name is Louis Albert William Longomba, is in Uganda to headline the Afro-exclusive concert at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel on Saturday, September 7, 2024. He will perform alongside Nigerian singer and songwriter Chike, known for his popular tracks like “Running,” “If You No Love,” “Insecure,” and “Roju.”

The visit to Gen. Kainerugaba follows a similar interaction last year when the Ugandan general met Jamaican music star Konshens. During that meeting, they explored potential collaborations between the Jamaican and Ugandan music industries, reflecting on the shared opportunities and the vibrant music scenes in both countries.

Longomba is widely celebrated across Africa and beyond for his energetic performances and hit songs, including “Karolina,” “Bundelele,” “Mobimba Ya Mama,” “Porokondo,” and “Champion.”

The concert is expected to draw a large crowd, eager to see the renowned Congolese artist perform live alongside other African music stars.
