Two people were seriously injured after falling from a motor vehicle, registration number UBE 366P (a Fuso fighter truck), in Agweng Town Council, Lira District. North Kyoga Police PRO SP Jimmy Patrick Okema stated that the incident occurred on September 5th, 2024, around 11:30 PM but was reported to the Lira District CPS on September 6th, around 1:10 AM by Lameck Odongo, the chairperson of Agweng Town Council.
According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the victims have been identified as:
- Mistika, a businesswoman and a resident of Lira City’s bus park.
- Jennifer, a businesswoman and a resident of Lira City’s bus park.
Okema stated that it’s alleged that on September 5th, 2024, around 11:30 PM, the motor vehicle UBE 366P Fuso fighter, which was overloaded with charcoal and belongings of people returning from Omot market in Agago District, was involved in an accident. While the driver was allegedly overspeeding and attempting to avoid a pothole in Agweng Town Council, two passengers reportedly fell from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
He added that Lira CPS police were informed and a case was registered. The victims were taken to a nearby clinic in Agweng Town Council for first aid.
The vehicle involved in the accident (UBE 366P) was temporarily parked at a checkpoint manned by UPDF officers after the driver was intercepted. However, the driver later fled, and the vehicle was then driven by a turn man and parked at Lira District Police CPS as investigations continue.
