President Yoweri Museveni has taken swift action following the release of a damning report by the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) concerning the Kiteezi landfill disaster.
The IGG report highlighted significant oversight and negligence within the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in managing the landfill, which led to a major environmental and public health crisis.
In response, President Museveni has dismissed several top KCCA officials. Those relieved of their duties include:
1. Mrs. Dorothy Kisaka – Executive Director
2. Engineer David Luyimbazi – Deputy Executive Director
3. Dr. Daniel Okello – Director of Public Health
The move underscores the government’s commitment to holding public officials accountable and addressing the failings that contributed to the disaster. The Kiteezi landfill had long been a source of concern, and the president’s decisive action is seen as a step towards improving waste management and public health standards in Kampala.
