Locals from Kashambya Sub-County in Rukiga District have today shared testimonies about the projects initiated by Dr. Sylvia Tumuheirwe Alinaitwe, the Deputy Managing Director of Finance and Corporate Strategy at the National Water and Sewerage Corporation.

Speaking to our reporter in Kantare Cell, Rutegye Parish, Kashambya Sub-County, where the coffee beds are at 70%, some beneficiaries testified that the ongoing coffee project has significantly impacted their families. The beneficiaries, led by Mrs. Ninsiima Mackline, Akanshemeza America, and Rosette Byaruhanga, stated that the situation was dire before the project was introduced in Rukiga District, specifically in their sub-county of Kashambya.

They mentioned that the project has enabled them to earn a living, pay school fees for their children, and purchase basic necessities for their families. They added that they had lost hope of their children returning to school due to low income and an inability to cover school fees.

Dr. Sylvia Tumuheirwe Alinaitwe has also supported the construction of churches, bridges, and roads. The locals rallied to support Dr. Sylvia, acknowledging her tremendous achievements for the betterment of Rukiga.

Mr. Isingoma Mubunga, the Project Manager, stated that the coffee seedlings will be ready for distribution in April 2025 and that he is currently employing over 30 workers who are paid monthly.

Among the projects initiated by Dr. Sylvia Tumuheirwe Alinaitwe in Kashambya Sub-County are coffee seedling beds, a water project (24 wells), water tanks, and public toilets—one at Nyaruziba Monthly Market and another at Kashambya Primary School. She has also supported worship centers, schools, and village associations with funding, provided families with hoes and pangas, and organized health medical camps that have benefited the community.

Kagwemera Patrick, the Local Council Chairperson for Nyaruziba Cell, and Abenanye Prossy, the Rutegye LC3 Female Councilor who also serves as the Vice Chairperson of Kashambya Sub-County, lauded Dr. Sylvia for lobbying for a public toilet. They noted that the situation was worse before her intervention, with some people resorting to using the bush. They, however, requested more toilets from the Deputy Managing Director.
