Joseph Ayolo, Nakapiripirit – Education advocates and the general public of Nakapiripirit District in the Karamoja region are currently disturbed by the behavior of Nakapiripirit councillors who are opposing the appointment of the long-serving District Sports Officer to take over as District Education Officer (DEO).
The Chief Administrative Officer of Nakapiripirit, Mr. Lawrence Wadada, wrote a letter to Ms. Christine Nadudu appointing her to take over the office following the retirement of the current DEO, Ms. Alice Amei. Ms. Nadudu has been in Nakapiripirit for the last 11 years as the District Sports Officer. She holds a postgraduate diploma in education and is currently finalizing her master’s degree in educational administration and planning at UCU Mbale Campus.
However, the councillors are fighting against Ms. Nadudu’s appointment, claiming she is not a Karimojong. On Monday, the District Executive Committee of Nakapiripirit called for an emergency DEC meeting to urge the CAO and DCAO to overturn the appointment letter for Ms. Nadudu.
The actions of these self-serving councillors have caught the attention of the public, who are describing it as greed and urging the Chief Administrative Officer to decline their request.
“Those are not political positions. Christine has worked in Nakapiripirit for so long, even before some of them had any idea of becoming councillors,” said Patrick Longole.
Betty Nakut added that Nakapiripirit District is part of Uganda and that every Ugandan has the right to be employed as long as they qualify.
