The Office of the Electoral Commission in Kisoro District has begun recruiting 1,288 individuals to serve as polling officials for the upcoming by-elections scheduled for November 14, 2024.

According to a job advertisement from the Returning Officer, the positions available include Presiding Officers, Polling Assistants, and Biometric Voter Verification Kit (BVVK) operators.

In an exclusive interview with the media, Returning Officer Daniel Nayebare stated that applicants for these roles must have at least a Uganda Certificate of Education, be registered voters, and preferably be residents of the area.

Additionally, police constables will be deployed by the District Police Commander (DPC) at all 322 polling stations throughout the district.

Nayebare urged residents, especially the youth, to take advantage of this recruitment opportunity, as it can help improve their living standards.

He also called on voters to participate in checking the accuracy of the electoral register, emphasizing the importance of ensuring their names are spelled correctly. This verification process began on October 14 and will end on October 24, 2024, taking place at every polling station.

He cautioned voters that failure to participate in this verification could result in their names being incorrectly listed in the register, preventing them from voting in the 2024 by-elections. Those affected will have to wait until the 2026-2031 elections to participate.
