A three-wheeled tractor, also known as a trike, is drawing attention at this year’s UMA international trade fair in Lugogo, Kampala. The Ministry of Science Technology and Innovations is displaying this trike to support small-scale farmers who may not afford larger agricultural machinery.
Allan Muhumuza, the Head of Mobility at the MoSTI Secretariat, revealed that this trike, manufactured in Uganda with a locally-made diesel engine, can transport one tonne of goods and pump up to 6,000 liters of water per hour for irrigation. Additionally, it comes equipped with a generator capable of producing six kilowatts of power for lighting. The trike’s fuel consumption is 3.7 liters per 100 kilometers, and it is priced at 28 million shillings.
This innovative product is just one of the offerings at the MoSTI tent during the ongoing international trade fair, which concludes on October 10, 2023. The fair’s theme is “Driving Manufacturing and Trade Efficiency Through Digital Transformation,” and it is organized by the Uganda Manufacturer’s Association (UMA).
