The Kisoro District Police will grant a police bond to two Seracin security guards over a reckless shooting incident involving a vehicle belonging to NRM flag bearer aspirant Akifeza Ngabirano during the ongoing by-elections. This decision follows a reconciliation between the involved parties.

The two security officers, Niyonteze Emmanuel and Turyatunga Evarist, residents of Kisoro District, allegedly fired two shots to disperse a crowd causing a commotion near a microfinance bank at around 9:30 PM.

It is reported that boda boda riders surrounded one of the campaign vehicles, registration number UAV 360Z, belonging to Akifeza Grace Ngabirano, one of eight women campaigning for the NRM flag in the Kisoro Woman MP by-election.

Sources from the boda boda riders indicated that they were submitting a list of those who had rallied behind Akifeza in Muramba and Nyarusiza Sub Counties, but had not received their promised allowances.

According to eyewitnesses, the security guards ordered the riders to disperse, but they refused, insisting on a refund for their fuel costs. The vehicle’s driver, Kato, called for assistance from the security guards, leading to the shots being fired.

In an interview, Kisoro District Police Commander Ben Niwamanya revealed that Emmanuel Niyonteze, a resident of Chahi, and Evarist Turyatunga, a resident of Central Division in Kisoro Municipality, are security guards employed by Seracin Security Company, stationed at Pride Microfinance Bank.

They reportedly discharged their firearms recklessly to disperse the boda boda riders surrounding Akifeza’s vehicle.

Nuwamanya confirmed that reconciliation had occurred with the candidate, allowing the guards to be released on police bond, while they will be monitored in their daily activities.

Nuwamanya urged the public to remain vigilant regarding armed officers during the ongoing elections and emphasized the importance of ethical conduct among security personnel.

He stated, “I want to call upon the public to always be mindful of officers carrying guns and other weapons. Interfering with someone armed can lead to tragic consequences.
