Applications for Government Sponsorship in Public Universities Now 100% Online

(Kampala) – Makerere University has announced that applications for government sponsorship at all public universities and other tertiary institutions for the 2025/2026 academic year will be processed entirely online, beginning November 4, 2024, and closing on December 31, 2024.

The Academic Registrar of Makerere University has notified all Advanced Level (UACE) head teachers with UNEB Centre Numbers about this online application process, which will be conducted through the Academic Management Information System (AMIS). This transition to an online only system means that no hard copy applications will be issued or accepted.

Students seeking government sponsorship can apply to any of Uganda’s public universities, which include Makerere University, Makerere University Business School, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Kyambogo University, Gulu University, Busitema University, Muni University, Kabale University, Lira University, Soroti University, and Mountains of the Moon University. A full list of other tertiary institutions eligible for government sponsorship can be accessed on the online application portal.

The deadline for submitting application data and acknowledgement forms via AMIS is December 31, 2024. This deadline is final, and late applications will not be accepted. Students are encouraged to review the list of available institutions and their programmes before starting their applications to ensure a smooth process.

Makerere University Academic Registrar Prof. Mukadasi Buyinza confirmed that the shift to online applications aims to streamline the admissions process, allowing for a more efficient and accessible system for all applicants.
