Steven Ariong, Moroto – A section of district local government officials in south Karamoja districts will next week receive integrity awards in recognition of their zero tolerance to corruption.

The colorful event, themed “Promoting integrity and citizens’ involvement in the war against corruption,” is scheduled for next week.

Dr. Mukisa Ayub, the Executive Director of the Karamoja Anti-Corruption Coalition, said the awards will be given to selected officials who have never misused public funds and have been transparent in their accountability to the public.

“We are doing this to recognize the few officials who have worked with integrity,” he said.

According to Dr. Ayub, they will continue to honor those who exercise and uphold integrity while serving the public interest.

The Ankole Times has learned that this is the first award to be given to officials holding public office with integrity.

The Karamoja Anti-Corruption Coalition has been hailed by the general public in the region for its efforts in fighting corruption.

The organization has been involved in massive training of local people to become anti-corruption monitors, monitoring every government project implemented for the community.
