OpenAI’s ChatGPT service experienced a brief outage on November 8, 2024, affecting thousands of users before being restored later in the day.

(Bengaluru) – OpenAI’s widely used chatbot, ChatGPT, was restored after a brief outage on November 8, 2024, which impacted thousands of users. According to the company, the issue was resolved by 4:34 p.m. PT (0034 GMT on Saturday), though a small group of customers continued experiencing difficulties until 5:00 p.m. (0100 GMT on Saturday).

OpenAI confirmed the resolution of the issue on its website, stating, “Issues with ChatGPT have now been resolved.” The company’s CEO, Sam Altman, also addressed the interruption on X, commenting that ChatGPT was down for 30 minutes. Altman acknowledged the disruption with a frown emoji and remarked, “We are much, much better at reliability than we used to be, but clearly more work in front of us.”




The outage, tracked by Downdetector.com, lasted around half an hour and affected over 19,000 users. The disruption occurred as the service was heavily used globally, with many users reporting difficulties accessing the platform.




Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has gained significant traction, amassing 250 million active users on a weekly basis. OpenAI’s valuation has soared to $157 billion, up from $14 billion in 2021, while the company’s revenue has reached $3.6 billion, far exceeding initial expectations.
