In a somber and sad tweet, Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura took to the social media platform X to mourn the untimely death of her younger brother, Tugume Albert Cook, who was killed by mobile money thieves. The tragic incident was reported by the police and media, involving a fatal mobile money theft in Ntinda last night.

According to Nyanjura, her 33-year-old brother was closing his shop a few minutes past 8:00 PM when he was approached by the assailants. He attempted to flee by running through a corridor near his workplace, but unfortunately, he was shot three times and died on the spot.

After shooting him, the assailants committed the despicable act of robbing him of his bag, which contained cash, mobile money agent lines, and other valuables. They then jumped onto a Boda Boda that was waiting nearby and fled the scene.

A Boda Boda cyclist named Barnabas, who was standing by, tried to come to Tugume’s rescue but was also shot. He is currently in the hospital receiving treatment. According to the Deputy Lord Mayor, a church service will be held for her late brother today, November 22nd, at St. Luke Church in Ntinda.

“My younger brother, Tugume Albert Cook Apuuli, aged 33, was shot dead by gunmen a few minutes past 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 21st, 2024, at his mobile money and agent banking shop on Ntinda Kiwatule Road (Muvule, Central Road). Cook attempted to escape from the gunmen, but he could only run so far. The cowards shot him three times, then took off with his bag containing money, mobile agent lines, and bank agent machines. The gunmen jumped onto a waiting Boda Boda and fled.

A Boda guy named Barnabas was shot while attempting to save my brother’s life. Barnabas, we are told, is at Mulago Hospital receiving treatment. We are praying for his speedy recovery and will be forever indebted to him for his heroic act.

A church service for Albert Cook will be held today, Friday, at 2:00 PM at St. Luke Church, Ntinda.

Until we meet again, bro. RIP.”

May the deceased’s soul rest in peace.
