Kampala, Uganda – In the wake of discussions surrounding Dr. Kizza Besigye’s ongoing detention, Hajji Kirunda Faruk, the Deputy Press Secretary to President Yoweri Museveni, has advised Besigye’s legal team and supporters to focus on pursuing bail through the proper channels.

Speaking on the matter, Kirunda emphasized the importance of following the Constitution and established legal procedures to address Besigye’s situation. “The legal team and supporters of Dr. Kizza Besigye should prepare well to secure for him bail at his next appearance as per the Constitution and through the established process,” he said.

He also cautioned against politicizing the role of the Court Martial, which he described as fully functional and handling various cases across the board. “Questioning the legal jurisdiction of the Court Martial politically when it’s fully functional doesn’t alleviate his burden at this time,” Kirunda added.

Additionally, Kirunda highlighted that Besigye, like others before him, could benefit from a presidential pardon. However, he stressed that this, too, would require adherence to established legal procedures.

“A cow is milked one teat at a time; the same applies to legal matters. Following the right process is the best way forward,” he concluded.

This statement comes as supporters of Dr. Besigye’s legal team continues to push for his release, sparking public debate over legal and political interpretations of his case.
