Five Arrested in Lira as Police Probe Cold-Blooded Murder of 44-Year-Old

Lira, Uganda – Police in the North Kyoga Region have launched an investigation into the death of a 44-year-old man in Lira City.

The territorial police in Lira-City West Division are investigating the suspected murder of Ogwal Bonny, a self-employed resident of Ober Kampala in Ojwina Ward, which occurred on December 4, 2024, at an unknown time within Ober Kampala Cell, Lira City West Division.




According to SP Okema, the spokesperson for the North Kyoga Region, the report was filed by Ojwang Fred, a 46-year-old resident of Obutuwelo ‘B’ Cell, Obutuwelo Ward, Lira City West Division.




It is alleged that on the evening of December 4, 2024, around 19:30 hours, Ogwal Bonny returned home very drunk and slept in his house.




However, on the morning of December 5, 2024, his neighbors woke up to find his door open. Concerned, they peered inside and saw him lying in a pool of blood, with a large stone stained with blood beside him.

The local council leaders were informed, and a case of murder was reported at Lira-City West Division Police Station. A team of police officers from Lira City West Division, led by the Division CID Officer, along with canine units attached to the North Kyoga Regional Headquarters, SOCO, homicide officers, and uniformed personnel, responded to the scene. The canine tracked the alleged suspects, leading to the arrest of five individuals.

Okema added that the crime scene was cordoned off, photographs were taken, and evidence was documented. The suspects apprehended with the help of the canine include:




  1. Okeny Innocent, 41, a resident of Ober Kampala.
  2. Akite Jacinta, 42, a resident of Ober Kampala.
  3. Otuke William Joshua, 25, a resident of Ober Kampala.
  4. Okello Ivan, 21, a resident of Ober Kampala.
  5. Ogwok Emmanuel, 18, a resident of Ober Kampala.

Police PRO SP Jimmy Okema stated that all the suspects have been taken to police cells in Lira-City West Division to assist with the investigation.

The body of Ogwal was retrieved and conveyed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital, where he was confirmed dead. The body was then taken to the mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

“We urge anyone with information regarding this murder to quietly share it with the police to assist with the investigation,” requested SP Okema.
