Lira, Uganda – The Deputy RCC of Lira City West Division, Mukamba Ibrahim, has appealed to fellow leaders in the Lango sub-region to mobilize for the Presidential Wealth Creation tour, which is expected to take place in January 2025.

He made the remarks while addressing members of the press from his office last week about the progress of PDM programs in Lira City West.

“I would like to use this press briefing to mobilize for the forthcoming Presidential Wealth Creation tour in the Lango sub-region, which will follow the President’s tour of Teso, Karamoja, Sebei, and Bunyoro sub-regions.

The President is therefore expected to visit the Lango sub-region after Bunyoro,” said Deputy RCC Mukamba.

“It is against this backdrop that the President is moving around the country to monitor and enlighten people on the PDM programs and the wealth creation initiative,” he added.

He further called upon the people of Lango sub-region, especially the leaders, to mobilize further for the wealth creation tour, which will be conducted by H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Museveni Kaguta.

“As you are well aware, when the President is in a region, he meets successful PDM beneficiaries, as we saw in other regions. Therefore, let’s mobilize massively ahead of his visit,” Deputy RCC Ibrahim urged.

The President is expected to visit the Lango sub-region soon, although the exact date has not yet been confirmed, according to unverified reports from our news team. These visits are part of his ongoing nationwide tours to assess the progress of the PDM program.

Deputy RCC Mukamba also urged fellow leaders to embrace teamwork and actively participate in the mobilization efforts to ensure the success of the President’s visit to Lango. Additionally, he appealed to the leaders in the region to make the best use of the Presidential Skilling Hub established in Lango by sending the right beneficiaries to study and acquire skills.

He further urged the leaders in Lango to join hands and appeal to the government to have the collapsed ginneries taken over by reputable investors for redevelopment.

Deputy RCC Mukamba also cautioned that anyone found embezzling or mismanaging PDM funds would be arrested, as seen in other regions, where several people were arrested for similar offenses.

“We appeal to leaders to take up their positions and inform the stakeholders and the citizens to take the tour seriously by identifying the real successful PDM beneficiaries in Lira City West Division and the Lango sub-region,” he emphasized.

Deputy RCC Mukamba Ibrahim thanked H.E. the President for the various government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, YLP, UWEP, and other initiatives that have contributed to poverty reduction and wealth creation in Uganda.

In a related development, Paska Atim, a 45-year-old SACCO chairperson, was arrested and remanded to Lira Government Prison for extorting a beneficiary, Akullo Charity, a journalist attached to the Daily Monitor publication. Additionally, Okello Richard Odyek, the Lira City Commercial Officer, was interdicted from office over PDM extortion claims.
