Winnie Byanyima Scolds Social Media Users for Questioning Her Alleged Affair with President Museveni

UNAIDS Executive Director and wife to veteran politician Dr Col Kiiza Besigye, Winnie Byanyima has scolded social media users who questioned her about her alleged affair with President Museveni. The distinguished academician and international civil servant has been having a busy activity on X formerly Twitter.

This is in regards to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s controversial tweets. As she was busy demolishing some of the General’s keyboard warriors, some questions were posed to her. One social media user without fear or favor asked about the rumors he grew up hearing that Winnie and Mr. Museveni had an intimate relationship.




“We’ve grown up hearing Mbu you and M7 were once a thing, plz is that true,” the social media user boldly asked to which she quickly brushed away replying that “And what is that to you? #StayInYourLane
Yiga empisa!.”




Another social media user said that he has always heard how President Museveni grew up in the household of the Byanyima’s and it seems it was Besigye who caused the rift between Museveni and Winnie.




“But I had that u guys grew up together!? I think besigye caused the lift between u and sevo,” asked the social media user and Winnie replied that “Lift or rift. What do you want to say.”

Well the rumors have always spread about how Museveni grew up in the home of the late Boniface Byanyima, Winnie’s dad. According to the Observer, it’s not rumors but rather true. The two (Museveni and Mzee Byanyima) remained close friends until the mid 1990’s when they fell out. Mzee Byanyima was quoted as saying “Then Museveni came here proposing marriage. He wanted to marry her, which I opposed. I told my daughter Museveni was not a reliable character. I think it was in 1987. By then he was married to Janet [Kataha]. I knew that.”

Additionally he said this about Museveni and Byanyima’s relationship as per The Observer:-




“They stayed together for a while. When people are staying together, you can’t know for how long [but] they were staying together at Entebbe. Then Karagwa realised that Museveni was not a good person to stay with. I think she discovered what I had told her about the character of Museveni; so, she left Museveni and his government.”
