Makerere University Business School (Mubs) Jinja campus has lost its lecturer, Joseph Kasango, in a road accident along the Bwondha road in Mayuge town council.

Kasango was driving his saloon car, registration number UAN 547M, when it collided with a Toyota Harrier. The Harrier is said to have sped off immediately after the incident on Christmas Eve. Eyewitnesses rushed to the scene, where they found Kasango fighting for his life alongside three other occupants.

Kasango died a few moments later, while the other three sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Iganga General Hospital’s emergency ward for further treatment.

One of the eyewitnesses, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated that Kasango’s car overturned multiple times, causing severe injuries to the occupants. Safina Namugerwa, another eyewitness, said that the vehicles involved in the accident were likely speeding, which might have contributed to the severity of the crash.

She also noted that Bwondha road, known for its deep potholes, has been the site of over three fatal accidents in the past two days, with many new travelers unaware of its current poor state. Mayuge Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Thomas Matende confirmed that joint night patrol teams responded to the scene, but there was little they could do to save Kasango’s life, as he appeared to have succumbed to head injuries moments after the accident.

Matende described Kasango as a source of inspiration to many young people in the district, offering career guidance and volunteering for inspirational talks to youth. He noted that, at the time of his death, Kasango was pursuing a PhD, and his skills would be dearly missed by not only his students at MUBs but also the youth of Mayuge, who drew inspiration from him.
