The Police in Kanungu District have arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of coffee from a local plantation.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, identified the suspects as Akeija Gwido and an unidentified Congolese national.
Maate said that the two are currently detained at Butogota Police Station as investigations continue.
According to Maate, the suspects are accused of stealing coffee from the plantation of Tugabirwe Bernard, the area chairperson of Nkwenda Cell, Southern Ward.
Maate revealed that Tugabirwe reported the theft to authorities, prompting the involvement of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and canine services from Bwindi Police Post.
Maate said that the scene of the crime was preserved, allowing the canine unit to effectively respond and aid in tracking the suspects.
