Makerere University, one of Uganda’s oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher learning, has announced that applications for the Bachelor of Education External (BED) programme for the 2025/2026 academic year are now open.
The university’s Academic Registrar, Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi, revealed that the application process will be conducted entirely online through the university’s admissions portal. This move aims to streamline the process, reduce paperwork, and increase efficiency.
How to Apply
To apply, candidates must first obtain a payment reference number by filling in their details on the university’s payment website at http://apply.mak.ac.ug . Applicants will need to provide their name, email address, and telephone number. Once the payment reference number is obtained, applicants must pay an application fee of UGX 50,000 at any bank used by the Uganda Revenue Authority. This fee is non-refundable and must be paid in full before the application can be processed.
In addition to the application fee, applicants must submit certified copies of their diploma transcripts and certificates, as well as a passport-size photograph. These documents should be submitted to Room 310, Level 3, Senate Building, Makerere University.
Important Information and Warnings
The university has warned applicants against presenting forged or other people’s academic documents. The consequences of doing so are severe, and applicants are advised to ensure that all documents are genuine and bear their correct names. Additionally, the Academic Registrar has emphasized that no agents have been appointed to solicit additional funds beyond the stated application fee.
