Otuke, Uganda – Ogwal Lameck Y.K, a seasoned lawyer and the Speaker of Otuke District Council, as well as the leader of the Uganda District Speakers’ Association, has announced his intention to run for Member of Parliament (MP) for Otuke East Constituency in the 2026 general election.

Ogwal, a strong supporter of the ruling party, revealed his plans to participate in the party’s primary elections to secure its backing.

His decision to move from local government politics to national politics is driven by his desire to gain a broader platform to better serve his community. Ogwal believes that Otuke East has not been adequately represented at the national level and is determined to change the status quo.

The outspoken and charismatic District Speaker outlined his primary goals, which include promoting education and sports, fostering talent, combating poverty, and improving healthcare services. He plans to achieve these objectives by building strong connections at both national and international levels.

With considerable support from his community, especially among the youth and women, Ogwal is confident that he will bring about meaningful change.

As the only challenger to the incumbent MP, Julius Acon, in the NRM primaries, Ogwal is ready to apply the skills he gained from his time in Makerere University Guild leadership, along with lessons learned from his experience in local government politics, to positively impact Otuke East.

Otuke East was created during the 2021 general election, and its first MP was Hon. Daniel Omara Atubo, a former minister and lawyer.
