The family of 14-year-old Manirunva Simon, who has been bedridden for two years after suffering a spinal cord injury during heavy floods in Buzeyi Village, Rukongi Parish, Nyarusiza Sub-County, Kisoro District, received a significant boost today with their son being transported to Mulago National Referral Hospital for further treatment.

This positive development follows a recent public appeal for financial assistance launched by the boy’s parents, Nvuyekure Godfrey and Chimpaye Phiona, who were unable to afford the necessary advanced medical care for their son.

Ndikuyeze Ramathan, chairperson of the organizing committee, urged the government to intervene and find a permanent solution to prevent similar incidents. He specifically called upon all Kisoro District Members of Parliament to raise this issue during parliamentary sessions to explore ways to mitigate the impact of flooding in the region and protect vulnerable communities.

Gakara God, the treasurer of the organizing committee, expressed his gratitude to all who contributed to the fundraising efforts. He encouraged well-wishers to continue supporting the family’s medical journey.

Hakizimana Martin, the councilor representing Muramba Sub-County, urged the public to actively participate in supporting the victim’s treatment. He emphasized the importance of collective action and called upon government authorities to provide necessary support to ensure the boy receives the best possible care.

The parents of the victim expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming support they have received from the community. They emphasized the ongoing need for assistance to ensure their son’s continued recovery.
