To uplift the standard of education in Oyam South Constituency and support students from low economic backgrounds and vulnerable children, Hon. Betty Amongi established the Hon. Betty Amongi Scholarship Scheme in 2016. Through this initiative, 40 students were selected and sponsored at AROVA Global High School in Myeene Sub-county.
The first group of students sat for the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams in 2019 and emerged as the best in the whole of Oyam District. Five students achieved Division One, twelve earned Division Two, and the rest were placed in Division Three.
In a related development, Hon. Betty Amongi also sponsored 250 students under the non-formal program. These students received training in various vocational institutions, such as Minakulu Technical Institute, Loro Vocational School, and Kamdini Polytechnic School.
The students who graduated were awarded certificates by the Directorate of Industrial Training, Ministry of Education & Sports, in disciplines like tailoring, welding, block laying, and carpentry.
Furthermore, Hon. Betty Amongi supported Minakulu Primary School with 400 iron sheets and UGX 15,000,000 when the roofs were blown off by wind. Additionally, she lobbied for the construction of four classroom blocks at Amaji Primary School, which were built by Synohydro Company Limited.
