Lira – A group of women called “Women in Action” based in Kakoge ‘B’, Lira City West Division, has appealed to the Right Honorable Speaker of the 11th Parliament, Hon. Anita Among, to assist them with a hatching machine to boost their poultry farming income.
Eunice Arwai, the General Overseer of the Women in Action group, made this request during a media interaction at the Great Salvation Church in Kakoge ‘B’ on Thursday.
Arwai commended Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Jane Aceng Ocero, for donating 500,000 Ugandan Shillings to the group, enabling them to diversify their enterprises after selling their initial stock of parent chickens. She explained that they were able to procure over 500 chicks, which will be ready for sale before the Easter holidays.
Tom Richard Okello, the Lira City Community Development Officer, applauded the women’s group and the Functional Adult Literacy (FAL) program, which has enrolled 84 adults. He commended the program’s voluntary instructors.
Ekul Celina, a 71-year-old woman studying under the Great Salvation Ministry’s FAL class, expressed gratitude to Pastor Arwai Patrick for initiating the program, which has enabled her to learn to read and write.
“I am very grateful for the person of the Hon. Speaker who is visiting Lira City soon. And because I personally know her, I would like to request her through this media interview to assist us with a hatching machine and other materials for preparing liquid soap and shea butter,” Eunice Arwai said.
Arwai emphasized that Minister Aceng’s initial support had significantly boosted their income-generating activities, transforming them into a source of wealth creation for several women.
Arwai also oversees the FAL class at the Great Salvation Ministries Church. Over 70 students have graduated from the learning center, and currently, 90 new learners are enrolled under the guidance of TOT Abwang Peter, a retired senior primary school teacher.
