Mr. Geoffrey Odur, the director of Mentor SS St. Mary Magdalene Campus, is more than prepared to admit more Senior One to S.3 students as term one opens on the 3rd of February, 2025, to boost learning in Northern Uganda and beyond.
In an interview with the media on Monday morning from the school campus located at the heart of Lira City in Barogole cell, Ojwina ward, Lira City West Division, Lira City, he narrated that the school is mainly empowering girls’ education and has excelled drastically in various fields of co-curricular activities and academics in the years 2023 and 2024, respectively.
Mr. Odur added that the school embarks on awarding bursaries and study opportunities to talented students, more especially in the field of sports and good academic performances. He said they are giving bursaries with some deductions in the fees structures for primary seven candidates who excelled in the PLE examinations 2024 and will later join Mentor SS St. Magdalene campus with some reasonable breakdown in half bursaries in terms of fees reduction ranging as shown below:
- 4-6 Aggregate: 75 percent deduction
- 6-7 Aggregate: 50 percent deduction
- 8-10 Aggregate: 30 percent deduction
- 11-12 Aggregate: 20 percent deduction.
The Director added that the students are beginning to report early enough on the 27th of February, 2025, for the school opening.
According to the Headteacher, Angom Grace, she stated that teachers are already in the school preparing their lesson plans and schemes of work early enough, ready for the school opening on the 3rd of February, 2025.
When asked about the performance of the school, the headteacher noted that the school excelled in the 2023 UCE results as follows: 35 in Division One, 85 in Division Two, 46 in Division Three, adding that each of them passed and was awarded a certificate by UNEB.
Meanwhile, the A-level result was impressive: 20 students got a principal pass, 27 obtained a principal pass, and the rest got a pass in the 2023 UACE examinations.
The national ranking and survey conducted by the Ministry of Education and Sports ranked Mentor SS St. Mary Magdalene school as the best.
The school has a capacity of accommodating 800 students with double-decker dormitories. However, at the moment, the enrollment of the students stands at 400, with more than 380 expected in the available vacancies in Senior One to Senior Three.
