A tragic accident involving a tourist vehicle occurred this morning, Monday, January 27, 2025, at approximately 7:50 AM, along the Butogota-Bwindi road in Kanungu District.
The vehicle, with registration number UAM 271U, was traveling from Bwindi towards Butogota when it veered off the road at Munyaga Bridge in Bikuto Cell, Southern Ward, Butogota Town Council.
Eyewitnesses suggest the accident was caused by brake failure. The vehicle overturned and plunged into a nearby river.
Four occupants of the vehicle, including three foreign tourists and a Ugandan driver, sustained critical injuries. They were immediately transported to Bwindi Hospital for medical treatment.
Early reports, yet to be confirmed, indicate that one male tourist may have succumbed to his injuries.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
