Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) spokesperson, Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye, has been promoted to the rank of Acting Major General by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations.
The Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs confirmed the promotion, citing Kulayigye’s invaluable contributions to the military and his crucial role in shaping the UPDF’s public image.
Colonel Deo Akiiki, Deputy Director of Defence Public Information, made the announcement in a press release on Tuesday, stating, “Major General Felix Kulayigye has played a pivotal role in shaping the UPDF’s public image, particularly through his position as Director of Defence Public Information.” He further emphasized, “His promotion reflects his unwavering commitment to both the institution and the nation.”
The Ministry of Defence and UPDF expressed their heartfelt congratulations to Kulayigye for his years of dedicated service and the significant impact he has had on the force.
Kulayigye holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Master of Arts in Economic Policy and Planning, both from Makerere University.
His military career began in 1989, where he saw combat as a platoon commander against the Lord’s Resistance Army in Northern Uganda.
He served as UPDF Spokesperson from 2005 to 2013 and was later elected as a Member of Parliament representing the UPDF in the 10th Parliament from 2016 to 2021.
In February 2022, Kulayigye returned to his role as UPDF spokesperson, replacing Brigadier General Flavia Byekwaso, who was assigned to the National Defence College in Jinja.
Kulayigye’s promotion is seen as a well-deserved recognition of his contributions to the institution and his representation of the UPDF in public affairs.
