Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results for transitional candidates. UNEB Executive Director, Dan Odong, presented the results, clarifying that this examination was based on the now-defunct UCE curriculum.

“This examination was for candidates who missed the 2023 examination or wished to repeat to improve their grades,” Odong explained.

A total of 10,141 candidates registered from 1,028 centers. Of those registered, 43.1% were male and 56.9% were female. Eight percent (813 candidates) were beneficiaries of the Universal Secondary Education (USE) program, while 88.2% were non-USE.

Odong reported a 96.1% candidate turnout, with 4,369 males and 5,373 females sitting for the exam. Sadly, 399 registered candidates did not appear.

The examination also accommodated 466 special needs candidates (442 males and 24 females) with disabilities, including blindness, low vision, deafness, dyslexia, and physical handicaps. All but one of these candidates were present for the examination.

Performance data, broken down by division, cumulative numbers, and percentages, was presented by Odong. 0.8% of candidates achieved Division One, and 5.2% achieved Division Two. Male candidates performed slightly better in Divisions One and Two, while performance was nearly equal at Division Nine.

UNEB reported approximately 200 cases of suspected malpractice involving external assistance. These candidates’ results will be withheld pending investigation.

Results are accessible online through examination center portals and via SMS on MTN and Airtel. UNEB requests that heads of examination centers submit any queries within 15 working days to facilitate the preparation of result slips and certificates.
