Wisdom High School in Akalo has celebrated a remarkable achievement under the new curriculum, with all UCE candidates passing, and many achieving top grades.
The school’s executive director explained that the top student, Shiba, scored 7 A’s, while others like Kerolinda Acan, Otim Bernard, and Ova Justine received 6 A’s and 5 A’s, respectively.
Impressively, no student received a D in project work. A total of 148 candidates sat for the examination.
The director emphasized that a Division One result is not the sole measure of success under the new curriculum. Ambrose Ogwal, the executive director of Wisdom High School, clarified the new grading system:
A represents exceptional performance (equivalent to the former distinction), B is outstanding performance (second best), C is satisfactory performance (third best), D indicates basic understanding (around 50%), and E is elementary understanding (below basic level, or a fail).
A simpler explanation of the UCE Lower Secondary Curriculum results is as follows:
- A is generally equivalent to D1 and D2.
- B is generally equivalent to C3 and C4.
- C is generally equivalent to C5 and C6.
- D is generally equivalent to P7 and P8.
- E is generally equivalent to F9.
By Tuesday evening, the school director joined the students in jubilation, praising God for Wisdom High School’s exceptional performance in the just-released UCE results. Ogwal confirmed that Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology were particularly strong, with many students achieving A grades.
The school director explained that the long-anticipated S4 examination’s newly implemented grading system, which categorizes student performance as A (Exceptional Achievement), B (Outstanding Performance), C (Satisfactory Performance), D (Basic Understanding), and E (Elementary Understanding), marks a significant departure from the traditional aggregates and divisions. He also cautioned against schools that may be misleading parents about their performance.
Dr. Patrick Olet, Director of Leo Atubo Campus, announced that both St. Gracious Secondary School in Lira and Leo Atubo Campus candidates also performed exceptionally well.
He highlighted Tunusime Umar’s achievement of 8 A’s and the strong performances of many other students. He added that they are planning a large road drive to celebrate the schools’ success.
