The Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, Hon. Betty Amongi, and the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, made generous donations totaling millions of shillings to St. Peter Anai Catholic Parish in Lira City on Sunday.
Hon. Betty Amongi Akena donated 21 million UGX to support various parish projects. During her address to the congregation, Amongi emphasized her commitment to conducting a peaceful and issue-based campaign, free from insults. She explained that her contribution was aimed at supporting church projects and uplifting the lives of believers in Anai Catholic Parish.
Amongi also highlighted the importance of church development and collective efforts in transforming the lives of Christians. She recounted her previous efforts as the Minister of Lands, where she lobbied for the construction of Lira Cathedral, resulting in a 400 million UGX donation from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. She also played a key role in securing city status for Lira Municipality during her tenure.
In addition to Amongi’s donation, Hon. Vincent Shedrick Obong Eyit, the MP for Lira City West Division, contributed 2 million UGX, with 1 million UGX allocated to church projects and another 1 million UGX for general church development.
Hon. Aduku Gloria Caro, a leader within the Lira City Council, praised Amongi’s generosity, noting that it reflects her commitment to the people of Lira City. Amongi, who is contesting for the Woman MP seat in the 2026 general elections, described Anai Ward as her second home and promised to return with more developmental initiatives. She pledged to focus on a peaceful campaign centered on development rather than personal attacks.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, also donated 20 million UGX to support St. Peter Anai Catholic Parish. Dr. Aceng, known for her dedication to public health and community welfare, emphasized her commitment to faith-based initiatives that uplift society. Her donation will go toward the purchase of chairs for the church.
The event, held at the newly elevated St. Peter Anai Parish, was attended by clergy, community members, and local leaders, including Lira City tycoon Geoffrey Etwop and Presidential Advisor Okello Opio.
A parishioner, Ketyy Akello, commended the ministers and other guests for their generous contributions and support for the church. The Bishop of Lira Diocese, Linos Wanok, offered prayers for both Dr. Aceng and Minister Amongi, blessing their efforts and leadership.
It’s good idea for leaders to support the community.et them keep filling out the gaps. And may God reward them.
I pray for them to get more than what they have. Amen
