Lira district NRM party treasurer Geoffrey Etwop has urged all National Resistance Movement (NRM) party members to unite and desist from internal fights.
Lira City businessman Godfrey Etwop made this plea on Thursday evening, February 14, 2025, in an exclusive interview with The Ankole News desk from Lira City.
According to Mr. Etwop, infighting among party members disserves them and tarnishes the party’s name.
“What is hindering Lira’s progress is disunity within some party members, internal fights, among other things. Please, let’s reconcile and work as a team if the party is to continue developing,” Etwop stated.
He urged party members to cherish and embrace the NRM party ideology and vision, built around the four core principles of patriotism, Pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and democracy, as always emphasized in the party policy by His Excellency the President.
The long-serving NRM party treasurer and senior NRM cadre also asked all NRM candidates contesting in different elective positions in the 2026 election not to disrespect the party by contesting as independent candidates after the NRM primaries.
“I call upon those who are going to lose in the primaries to remain patriotic and loyal to the party. Go and rally behind our flag bearers because the party is bigger than all of us,” he added.
Etwop also lauded the Lango sub-region NRM party leadership for their tremendous work, especially the construction of party offices and successfully recruiting opposition members to join the ruling NRM party.
Etwop, who intends to vie for the Lira City NRM Chairman seat, argued that a lack of unity among political leaders has contributed to divisions within the electorate. “What is clear is that our leaders are not united, and this is why many of the challenges we face remain unresolved,” Etwop added.
He emphasized the importance of voters understanding the roles of different political leaders, calling for unity of purpose.
Many people in the Lango sub-region and Northern Uganda know businessman Geoffrey Etwop as an influential man of dignity, a social and vibrant NRM cadre who has mentored many people in the party.
