Kole District, Uganda – The State Minister for Local Government, Hon. Rusoke Victoria, will visit Kole District on Monday, February 24, 2025.
This visit follows concerns raised by Kole North MP, Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti, and Kole South MP, Hon. Ocen Peter Akalo, regarding challenges within the district roads committee.
The MPs allege that the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Soita Wamburu, and the Acting District Engineer, Emmanuel Okello, have repeatedly failed to attend committee meetings, thereby hindering its work.
According to MP Opio Acuti, the Minister is also expected to address service delivery challenges raised by stakeholders during her previous visit to Kole last year. These include issues surrounding the handling of local revenue and local service tax, with several lower local governments claiming they are not receiving their entitled share or receiving significantly less than expected.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am at Kole District headquarters. Expected attendees include the MPs, Resident District Commissioner (RDC), LC5 Chairperson, CAO, heads of department, LC3 chairpersons and mayors, sub-county chiefs, and officers in charge of all health facilities.
Hon. Rusoke Victoria’s return to Kole follows a previous visit last year. This meeting will focus on the aforementioned issues concerning the district roads committee and broader service delivery challenges.
A 50-year-old resident of Kole Town Council commended MP Opio Acuti for his efforts to ensure the district progresses without corruption.
The Kole District LC5 Chairman, Andrew Awany, could not be reached for comment by phone at the time of publication, despite repeated attempts.
