Horeb Ndyamuhakyi, the Kigezi Anglican Youth Ministry (KAYM) Mission Coordinator from the Diocese of Kigezi, challenged students to proactively prepare for their future during their formative years.
He delivered this message on March 7, 2025, at the orientation ceremony for Senior One and Senior Five students of Nyaruhanga High School in Rubanda Town Council, Rubanda District, held on the school premises.
Addressing the students, Ndyamuhakyi emphasized the importance of a positive trajectory, stating that while starting with challenges and achieving success is commendable, and starting well and maintaining it is ideal, a decline from a good start or a consistently negative path leads to detrimental outcomes.
He cautioned students against associating with negative influences at school, which he identified as a significant factor in hindering their potential. He furthe
r highlighted that the secondary school stage is where students face the risk of early pregnancies and where they either solidify or compromise their future prospects.
Ndyamuhakyi observed that while primary school pupils enthusiastically sing about their future aspirations, secondary school often marks a period where students lose sight of their ambitions, dreams, and destinies. “You are not created for disaster, but for excellence,” he declared.
He likened students’ destinies to a delicate glass, emphasizing that every decision, whether positive or negative, contributes to their ultimate outcome.
Francine Turyazayo, Political Assistant to Hon. Ninsiima Evelyn Kikafunda, aspirant Member of Parliament for Rubanda District, and the chief guest, urged students to avoid distractions that could impede their academic progress.
Turyazayo highlighted the issue of land fragmentation in the Kigezi sub-region, stressing that academic achievement is the students’ primary avenue for success.
Robert Katebarigwe, Head Teacher of Nyaruhanga High School, expressed gratitude to Ninsiima Evelyn Kikafunda, President of Green Environment Promotion, for sponsoring three students at the school.
Katebarigwe noted that Kikafunda’s philanthropic efforts predated her political aspirations and acknowledged the school’s appreciation for her support amidst numerous schools in the district.
