Spotlight on Africa and its European funders have pledged to support Bukasakya Health Centre IV with a theatre machine valued at approximately 300 million Ugandan shillings.
Mr. Hefin Rees and his wife, Dr. Betham Rees, both UK philanthropists, have committed to mobilizing their European contacts to ensure the health facility receives the much-needed theatre machine before the end of the year. Bukasakya Health Centre IV is jointly managed by the government and Spotlight on Africa. The facility is located in the Industrial City Division, just a few meters from the Chinese Industrial Park in Mbale City.
The UK delegation visited the health facility yesterday, including Mr. Rees, Dr. Betham, Laura Bailey, and Wendy Hawson, among other members of the British delegation. Mr. Rees is a top UK lawyer and an established arbitrator and part-time judge, while Dr. Betham is a family doctor in the United Kingdom.
The Director of Spotlight on Africa, Richard Okotel, welcomed the team in Uganda. Mr. Okotel reports to the UK team headed by Mr. Rees.
Speaking on behalf of the Health Management Committee (HUMIC), Mr. Steven Masiga, the chairman of the committee, thanked the visitors for prioritizing the health of the Bamasaaba people and other city residents. Masiga also expressed gratitude to the government for recruiting and paying staff, as well as providing medication.
Masiga further stated that acquiring the theatre machine, which will assist with deliveries and operations for mothers in labor, would speed up the process of upgrading the facility to Health Centre IV status.
The staff at the facility, including Dr. Edith Fomum and the in-charge, Janet Nabulo, pledged continued service to the residents on behalf of Spotlight on Africa and the Government of Uganda.
