A tragic road accident occurred on Thursday afternoon at approximately 2:30 PM along the Kabale-Mbarara highway, near Kabaraga village—shortly after the Fresh Food Station. The incident claimed the life of one individual and left thirteen others critically injured.
The accident involved a white Toyota Hiace, registration number UBL 327M, which was reportedly being driven by an unidentified person who fled the scene immediately after the crash. The vehicle was en route from Kabale town towards Mbarara when it lost control and overturned multiple times.
The deceased has been identified as Agaba Innocent, a 40-year-old teacher at Kyogo Secondary School in Kabale and a resident of Kakuga Village, Rutare I, Muhanga Town Council, Rukiga District. He was one of the passengers in the ill-fated vehicle.
In addition to the fatality, 13 people were severely injured—comprising seven male adults and six female adults. Their identities remain unconfirmed due to the critical nature of their conditions.
The accident scene was promptly secured by ASP Mucunguzi and a team of officers. The body of the deceased was transported to Kabale Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination, while the injured victims are currently receiving treatment at Kabale Hospital.
A sketch plan of the crash site was completed, and the vehicle has been towed to the police station for further inspection by the Investigation of Vehicles (IOV) team. Preliminary findings suggest that speeding may have contributed to the accident, though investigations are ongoing.
Police have launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the crash and are actively searching for the fugitive driver.
