Thousands of Christians participated in the Way of the Cross in Mbarara City on Good Friday, April 18, 2025. The procession began at Nyamityobora Catholic Church and ended at Booma Grounds, drawing notable figures such as MPs Francis Mwijukye and Robert Rukaari, and Mbarara City Mayor Robert Kakyebezi.

The ecumenical event, marked by prayer and reflection, brought together participants from across the Ankole Diocese and beyond to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Bishop Rt. Rev. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa of Ankole Diocese led the procession, accompanied by Diocesan Secretary Rev. Canon Edson Abasa, who carried a wooden cross symbolizing Jesus’ journey to Calvary.

As the faithful marched through the city streets, they sang hymns, with one poignant refrain shared by The Ankole Times: “Oh Jesus, remember me when you reach your glorious throne in heaven.” The walk included stops at various stations for prayers and reflection on the Stations of the Cross.

Meanwhile, in Mirama, Rwampara District, hundreds gathered at Yesu Ahuriire Calvary Hill for another ecumenical Way of the Cross. Mbarara City Woman MP Hon. Ritah Atukwatsa Bwahika joined the spiritual procession, which drew worshippers from across the region.

These Good Friday events highlighted the community’s unity and deep spiritual commitment, as people from diverse backgrounds came together to honor one of Christianity’s most sacred traditions.
